Average Bass Guitar Weight

The low size should I get for my son of eight years?
My son has dealt with the guitar at school as well (I have 9 / 10) during the test soon they had and was accepted to learn to play bass. The lady who organizes the band said I should buy a size for him. I ordered one on ebay (but not paid for it yet) and I'm wondering a while a band size is too big for him. Does anyone know of some 8 years of age who have successfully learned to play a full size down? It is of medium height, light weight.
As a teacher and studio musician, I've seen all kinds and taught all kinds. The size is irrelevant because it will grow with the instrument and adjust accordingly. When he accepted, I imagine he played the instrument is not? His is no problem to learn about low size. Now, if you were buying a bass, I would say no. Just make sure you are getting your value for money. Generally, e-bay is good business.
