Bass Guitar Timing
How do you boil down the guitar strings?
There were many comments here on yahoo answers saying that you could boil old guitar strings down to remove any dirt on it. I loved the previous sequence, I had put on my bass, and I want to try it. What are the exact procedures boiling? What I need: the time (as in the second) if I should be cold after it is cooked, etc thanks!
I like to boil mine in vegetable broth, and serve with a nice crusty bread. I have a lot of cooked bass strings before, and it helps a little. I also tried cleaning them with Mennon aftershave Skin Bracer. I do not know if it really clean the strings, but my guitar case certain smell great! I got that tip from Billy Sheehan. Getting the dirt out between the strings is good. But it is not physical damage that occurs to the chains as a byproduct of playing, and no amount of boiling will fix this. If you boil the strings that I'd just leave them in the pan for 20-30 minutes. Do not shock them with cold water after. Just let it cool on its own, and make sure that is dry before putting them back on your bass. Finally, you may want to use distilled water for this. I never thought until now, but I can see that if your water is very difficult as you could simply deposit more minerals (crud) on the ropes, submerging them in hard water.
