Bob’s Guitar Hospital
Music Review The Old Hippies
Well, of course you should not tell the age of the girl, but we've been married almost 40 years. Some shows subtraction Music was what she and I grew up we did not make it to Woodstock, but I had to go to a music festival three days in Goose Lake, Michigan in the summer of 1970. The details are somewhat hazy, because the promoters announced that "do not take mescaline Brown!" a few minutes too late for me. One of the biggest disappointments, beyond the bad psychedelics, which was one of the best groups of English blues, Savoy Brown, was a no-show. The good news was Ten Years After, The James Gang and Jethro Tull were there, and dozens of other super-famous groups. The wife and I were lovers of music, then and now. In the summer of 66 when I woke up in hospital with nothing much to do (except Seconal to eat for pain), I teethed in "The Pied Piper," "Sweet Pea", "Summer In The City," "I Saw Her Again Last Night." I think I also fell in love for the first time, but I never saw the princess again, well, maybe once. My wife knew that her first love at the same time and she also had a second love, the Beatles. She has to go to his concerts in 1968 and '69. She probably could not hear the song to yell, but had an effect on it, in However lifelong. So I would say that 1966 was over the top of our musical journey.
Over the years our eventual exercise of LPs, CDs, tapes and reached more than 600 films. Unfortunately (or fortunately, from my point of view), I like the music my family got stuck in the 1960s and 1970s. I tell myself that it does not is natural. Fast forward a bit in the next three decades. The following are the best pieces from the collection and awareness of a couple stubborn.
Hopefully all musical tastes are present: Judy Collins Recollections (Elektra, 1969), Bob Dylan Blood On The Tracks (Columbia, 1975), Beatles (White Album) (Apple, 1968), Grateful Dead-American Beauty (Warner Bros., 1970), Rolling Stones, Let It Bleed (London, 1969), Janis Joplin, Pearl (Columbia, 1971), The Spirit 12 Dreams Of Dr. Sardonicus (Epic, 1970), Rod Stewart, Every Picture Tells a Story (Mercury, 1971), Bob Marley and The Wailers Legend (Island, 1984), Pink Floyd, The Wall (Columbia, 1979), Paul Simon Graceland (Warner Bros., 1986), Patsy Cline-12 Greatest Hits (MCA, 2003), Johnny Cash American IV / The Man Comes Around (American, 2003), Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble, The Real Deal: Greatest Hits Vol. 2 (Epic, 1999), Abigail Washburn Song Of The Traveling Daughter (Nettwerk, 2005).
Out of so many decisions the girl and I just agree to fifteen years. So it's kind of wrong about the next seven. She likes to "Are You Experienced?" by The Jimi Hendrix Experience, but I prefer "Axis, Bold As Love". I love Leo Kottke 6 & 12 string guitar, "but she prefers the" greenhouse effect ". She loves big extravagance Tom Waits "Orphans," but the dogs "Rain" is a bit better for me. She likes of The Traveling Wilburys Vol ยป3, I prefer vol. 1. As for Bruce Springsteen, she likes to "Born In The USA" and I like "The Rising" better. Her favorite Led Zeppelin album is the first, I prefer varied compilation "Early Days & Days Later". Of course your pick Fleetwood Mac "Rumours" is not close "Then Play On ", though the group is the same in these two teams in name only.
Now reviews and females diverge completely. The rest of it is picks (PFFFFFT): The Concert For Bangladesh, Blessed Are ... by Joan Baez, the fourth moon in a Ten Cent Town by Emmy Lou Harris, against the wind by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel, Moondance by Van Morrison, Stevie Nicks Belladonna by Angel Band (Oh no) Emmy Lou Harris again, Brave & Crazy by Melissa Etheridge, The Principle of Moments by Robert Plant and Running on Empty by Jackson Browne. The rest of my picks are: Disraeli Gears by Cream, The Doors' first album, Rides Again by The James Gang, Lola Versus Powerman And The Moneygoround by The Kinks, Waiting For Columbus by Little Feat, The Inner Mounting Flame by Mahavishnu Orchestra Uncle Meat, the mothers of invention, Shine On Brightly by Procol Harum, The Joshua Tree U2's Recycling The Blues & Other Stuff related to Taj Mahal, Shady Grove by Jerry Garcia & David Grisman, The Eminem Show by Eminem, and any "Best of" Beethoven. My copy is being put on the label Metacom. Drum Roll ... 25 best songs ever! His brother Wind "Idiot" by Bob Dylan, "Piece Of My Heart", Big Floyd and the Holding Company, "Mother," Pink "No Woman No Cry" Bob Marley, "Closer to Fine, Indigo Girls," Hard Rain "by Bob Dylan," Willow, "Joan Armatrading, "Talkin 'About The Revolution Lou Harris, Tracy Chapman," Sugaree, "Jerry Garcia," River "by Joni Mitchell "Boulder To Birmingham", Emmy, Prine "Hello there" John, Anchorage, Michelle Shocked, Crow "Bridge Over Troubled Water," Simon & Garfunkel, "Red, Red Wine, UB40," Shine A Light, the Rolling Stones, "Too Far From Texas" by Stevie Nicks, "Strong Enough, "Sheryl, Springsteen's" Who Will Save Your Soul? "Jewel," Into The Fire "Bruce," Let It Slip Away ", John Hiatt," Tears In Heaven, Eric Clapton, Trouble Me "-10,000 Maniacs," She's A Mystery ", Roy Orbison and, finally," Oh Happy Day " Edwin Hawkins Singers A.
Some of those singles that I can see are not too bad, but I can do better.
My taste in music is so old that not all record companies cited are still in existence. Elektra is now a dormant subsidiary of Warner Bros., which itself is now a subsidiary of Sony. The Label Rolling Stones' London is now managed by Polydor. MCA was absorbed by Geffen Records.
I have to mention the sound reproduction equipment that I've used in the investigation of the investigation. My primary speakers is as old as my marriage. They are realistic Mach 1s (the terminal screw good # 4024) and sound as good as the day they were born. I'd be interested to know if many people still use these. They are unbelievable. My side are little Optimus 7 1 / 4 x 4 1 / 2 speaker boxes sound great. I use a Yamaha turntable with Audio Technica cartridge. My cd changer is Optimus. My receiver is also a digital synthesized Optimus What is a Radio Shack. Realistic was the former Radio Shack. I can see people snickering but is very good at a good price for the most part, although I'm not in love the CD changer. The dual cassette deck I use is a Teac.
Picks for the best guitarists, songwriters, singers and (as such categories define rock) are .........
HERS-Guitar: Leo Kottke, Jimi Hendrix (the amazing talent could play their instrument with teeth), Jerry Garcia, Alvin Lee, Stevie Ray Vaughn
HIS: Same, Frank Zappa except instead of Garcia
HERS-Songwriters: Lennon & McCartney, Bob Dylan (nee Zimmerman, which will be recorded in history as one of the 20th century great poet), Bruce Springsteen, Janis Joplin, Eric Clapton
HIS: Tom Waits, Keith Reid (Procol Harem wrote for), Marshall Mathers (aka Eminem) Dylan and Springsteen
HERS-vocalists: Janis Joplin, Mick Jagger, Emmy Lou Harris, John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen
HIS: Jagger, Johnny Cash, Jerry Garcia, Tom Waits, Alan (Blind Owl Wilson). Blind Owl voice is the antithesis of Tom Waits is. Although Bob (Bear) Hite was technically Canned Heat lead singer, Al sang his most famous song.
This is a good advantage for the real top 25 songs of all time (in my opinion) as "On The Road Again" is one. Then there's "Rattlesnake Shake" - (Original) Fleetwood Mac, "Day Trouble Comin 'Every' Mothers of Invention," Alcohol, "Kinks" The Thrill Is Gone, BB King, "Louis Collins -Garcia/Grisman," Lose Yourself "by Eminem," Wang Dang Doodle, Koko Taylor, Graceland "by Paul Simon," Well-intentioned Blues -Guest/Horowitz (National Lampoon), "Darlin 'If the Spirit", "Mac Tusk "Fleetwood, Moon" Yellow ", Neville Bros," Tango Till They're Sore ", Tom Waits," Voodoo Child ", Stevie Ray Vaughn, "Star Spangled Banner," Jimi Hendrix, "Hurt" Johnny Cash, fields of "Strawberry Forever," the Beatles "Cry Baby" Janis Joplin, "Love In Vain", Rolling Stones, "Unsquare Dance" by Dave Brubeck, "Visions Of Johanna," Bob Dylan, "Nebraska "Bruce Springsteen, and I agree with you on" Oh Happy Day "and" Willow. "
Unfortunately, many of the big stars mentioned have died. Janis Joplin, which I think is the greatest blues singer of all time were female, died from excess Southern Comfort and heroin at the age of 27. This is one of the great tragedies of the music. Likewise alcohol and drugs made in Jim Morrison, Doors, before he reached the age of 30 years. Frank Zappa died of cancer prostate. He was an absolute genius. Jerry Garcia & Roy Orbison had heart attacks. The great artists of the blues BB King & Koko Taylor are gone. Bob Marley died of brain cancer. The great country singer Patsy Cline died too young (30) in a plane crash and another country icon, Johnny Cash had diabetes finish it. Stevie Ray Vaughn was killed in a helicopter disaster. I do not think Ludwig Von longer with us. John Lennon was murdered by a crazy fan. Another Beatle and a member of The Traveling Wilburys, George Harrison has died of cancer. The two vocalists for Canned Heat, Blind Owl & The Bear died young, both in 1970, Alan Wilson commit suicide. All three members of The Jimi Hendrix Experience are now gone, drummer "Mitch" Mitchell succumbing in late 2008. 3.5 of the Spirit are dead (Ed Cassidy, Randy California, and keyboardist John Locke). Led Zeppelin's John Bonham choked on his vomit in 1980. Fortunately many of the rest are still with us, making great songs. How does Keith Richards to continue? I would have chosen him to go first, not his bandmate Brian Jones (drowned).
Thanks for listening to good music.
