They got their start in 1976, when the young Dean Zelinsky decided he wanted to create a different kind of guitar design than what was present in the market. Sound:

The sound is great, typical of this style of guitar Dean. Nice crunch, when amp is saturated, when the candy is not. I use Fender tube amps exclusively. These pickups do not reap as much as the average people think they have (IMHO) a very good balance and the guitar is so good for blues, as it is for most everything except that one super country "clean" sound.

Durability:

The guitar is typical U.S. and Dean is very well built. Once the pan is replaced, will a great player and I have no doubts about his longevity and ability to withstand playing live.
