Help with the construction of an electric guitar?
I will build a guitar with a neck Gibson im going to order and stain, and a solid body cherry, which will be stained / Designed well. Thus begins the questions. Could someone explain where I would place the bridge so that the sound comes out correctly, where is a cheap place to buy parts of good quality (i think I've found a site for this cross-checking, but it can not hurt) and possibly some dimensions to the guitar. I think I'm going to do most work on the guitar, but have a timber class in the school put on some of the finer details and a friend drawing on the back and seal it, then varnish. In my opinion, I would consider not using a Gibson neck in a body kit, especially if you're going to design an organism from scratch. If you've played a Gibson, as a SG or Les Paul, you will note that the neck is not for the screw, but are "set" neck projects. The other types are "bolt on", as in a Fender or a neck "to" How Alembic. However, if you are looking for parts check site Warmoth or Mighty Mite's site. They carry all types of material Guitar builders.You can probably find a combination of neck and body, which will have the mount points or at least the range of measures to put the bridge and pick ups. If you go down to a music store and take a tape measure and check the various lengths of the nut to the bridge to the reference points. Good luck. Additional: In answer to your question further, if you're going to make the body and through the cavity of the neck you have to take into account not only the length of the cavity, but more important is the depth. What you need to avoid is having the neck Stick Up too high where it joins the body. If so, you probably not be able to get the bridge high enough for the strings to clean the fretboard. In addition, you have to be able to raise the pickups to ensure the maximum response of the strings.
