What is a good brand of guitar for a beginner?
So I was playing a guitar for 6 months now, and I think I'm ready to upgrade to a electric. Thing is, I do not know much about the different brands, and that the different qualities / advantages / disadvantages of them. I am especially interested in guitar couch where I sit on the couch and play for my own amusement. For this reason, I'm not a big fan of stratacasters fender, just because the body shape makes it difficult to play on my knee (his curve slides down my leg). But I do not really know if there is any difference between, say, a Gibson SG, a telecaster, ultra, basic, standard, whatever. I understand that currently, the only differences really are cosmetic, as the sound quality and type comes solely from the amplifier. So guitar gurus, what do you suggest to us a beginner like me? I prefer to spend more than $ 300, just because I'm not financially ready to make a larger investment. What do you think?
There are many differences beyond the body shapes. One hand, Strats & Teles has a 25.5 " (range from bridge to nut), while Les Pauls, SGs is 24.75 etc.. "It's only 3 / 4 inch, but can make a difference in how comfortable you is stretching the hand freting. Moreover, Fenders rule is simple coil pickups (PU), which sound much different than Humbucking pickups found in most Gibsons. Moreover, many Fenders have a strong neck board. Some have a rosewood fretboard (like most Gibsons - the top end models sometimes use ebony) and many Gibson models use mandatory when the frets meet the edge of the neck. That and the fact that Gibson fret markers are usually larger than the Fender points "can make a difference. The shape of the neck as it fits in your hand (big, thick, thin) can make or break a guitar. Too fretboard radius (the curve of the fretboard) can be different. As Gibsons are usually fairly flat, some of the fender reissue has about a 7.5 "radius. Gibsons Most have a two pickup configuration, giving you the choice of the neck PU, both near the bridge and PU. Strats, and three receivers are now made to give five tone options with his switch; PU neck, neck / middle, middle, middle / bridge and bridge. Teles have much the same as a Les Paul or SG, except thinner sounding single coil pickups. True, you should find one that you are happy, but knowing these things early can help.
