If you have gold, silver, antiques and other rare collectibles from around your house, the Treasure Hunters Roadshow want to see them.

The International Association collectors, based in Springfield, Illinois, is bringing his roadshow to five days for the Quad-Cities, for the first time this week, starting Tuesday in La Quinta Inn, 5450 27th St., Moline.

"What we have really seen is a ton of gold and silver," said Matthew Enright, director of association operations, said recently. "As the dollar gets weaker, gold and silver go up in value. The gold market is through the roof."

"People are taking into broken chains, necklaces. People are taking advantage of the market, "he said.

A man last week in South Dakota brought a handful of silver dollars of age and 50 cent pieces, and he left with more than $ 4000, Mr. Enright said. "The guy was blown away," he said.

Treasure hunters make offers based on what collectors are willing to pay. When someone decides to sell, he is paid on the spot and the treasure hunters send the item for the collector, Mr. Enright said.

Part of a national tour, the Treasure Hunters Roadshow launched 15 years ago and was all Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee, he said.

The association works with 6,500 collectors from around the world and has allocated $ 712,000 to spend this week in antiques and collectibles, Mr. Enright said.

"We are looking for items like swords of the Civil War, the Gibsons 30 and 40 years," he said. "People bring these items, login, receive a number, and they sit in front of an evaluator. "

A collector who is interested in a specific item that can be achieved directly during the show, or a specialist will determine its value, and the owner usually makes a sale at the show, Mr. Enright said.

Association not use licensed appraisers, but can give confidence to market values for parts. If a buyer can not be found, the owner will be sent to those may be interested in the item.

Treasure hunters are interested in seeing items such as coins and paper currency issued prior to 1964, toys, dolls, trains, vintage jewelry, old and modern musical instruments, war memorabilia, advertising memorabilia, swords and knives.

Mr. Enright noted one item not be coins from 2000. A businessman has invested in gold coins again in early 2000. He paid $ 1,200 for the upper class, minted coins and he ended up leaving with a $ 40,000 check.

During the past year, the show usually attracts 1,000 to 1,500 people throughout the week, Mr. Enright said. A tough economy, do not necessarily have boosted the numbers, he added.

Collectors - who are also welcome to visit the show - are very serious about their hobby, and are willing to pay the top dollar for the items they want, Mr. Enright said.

Nearly all the coins, jewelry, musical instruments and toys made before 1965 are highly sought after by collectors, he said.

The show runs at LaQuinta from 9 am to pm Tuesday through Friday 6 and Saturday 9-4. For more information, About the Author:
