guitar action gauge
How can I get more sustain out of my guitar?

not change strings with the strings near the headstock work? what about the action? materials low or high? I like a lot of action ... my gauges 11-54 are ok ... Aunt Jemima's syrup? .. lol

Yup. the second guy is correct, you're pretty much stuck with what you have, I think the strings (unless they are very, very old and grumpy), have little impact. , 11 -. 54 is quite heavy it is electric, good choice. They will hold a little longer than the smaller gauges. Hardens fingers too. So let's assume you have a guitar electric and you have some skills as far as attack, typing and how to use vibrato. There are two things I can think that can help 1) the effects are an easy way to get a lot of support. Distortion, fuzz, saturated pre-amp effects so compression can also help to sustain, but you will lose some dynamic (and sometimes I hear strange "pumping" sounds) due to the way it operates. 2) If you're not big on effects and / or want a cleaner sound, they used to sell a bronze plaque, cut with the shape of the standard Fender / Gibson headstock shapes. It was called "Fathead" and bolted to the bottom of the head. The brass was heavy, and the extra heft does not appear to increase the sustain of a cheap guitar I had years ago. The guitar is very time, but kept the Fathead. I have no idea if they are still selling them, but probably would not be very difficult to have made a cheap, if you know a mechanic. I'm sure once I saw a similar setup that closed the back of the guitar body as well. This can make your guitar a little too heavy, however, I never tried. Ok, maybe a third option 3) hang in there until you can buy the guitar you really want. If you can squeeze the maximum than you are stuck with, you just sound better when you take a step forward in quality. Good luck.
