Guitar Alphabets

How many alphabets behind the guitar?
Em7 What does that mean? I just started playing and I learned is larger and is smaller, but that is with the number behind all this? Thanks =)
I read it as "add 7". The key is E, the lower-case m stands for minor and the number refers to a note in the scale. Here's your E-scale: E, F #, G #, A, B, C #, D #, E If it were a chord of E Major, which could be E, G #, B, E so with the "7", you add the 7th note, in this case, D #, but this is important. only to discover the smaller scale, then find the note 7, and add it! ... Or just look up in ropes.
