Making music with your computer

recording studios, computer at home should include a reasonably powerful computer (at least 1 GB RAM), an audio interface, and a program from workstation to digital audio. If you want to record any acoustic instruments or vocals will microphones. For those interested in using synthesizers, samplers, loops, and drum machines I recommend the software Reason. You will also, of course, needs some kind of system to listen back to your music. You really should have both speakers and headphones (for listening to your music for both sides to make sure a good mix.)

What kind of computer should you start? Well, if you already have a computer that you are happy with then you can probably use what you already have. But you should make sure you have at least 1 GB of RAM. And in all probability you want more than that. I recommend at least 2 GB. His recording and mixing software will work much better with more RAM.

If you get a Mac or a PC? In my opinion one of the options is good. Most people make a lot of talk about it. Some programs work better with one or the other and while other programs only work with one another. So if you have a particular program you really want to use, make sure it is compatible with your computer.

What kind of audio interface you get depends on two things: your needs and your budget. If you just thinking about recording it, then you will not need more than two entries (maximum). Unless of course you have a live drum set (it's good to record the drums with many entrances to the different microphones.) But there's more to consider than just how many entries you get with your interface, you should also consider the quality of sound. The more expensive models also tend to have better sound quality. Get what you can afford.

There are a lot of options as far as digital audio workstation (DAW) software. There's Pro Tools (which works with Digidesign audio interfaces.) There Cubase. There Nuendo. There is no logic. And there's some others too. Which one is best for you? Well, first you should know that some of these programs only works with PC (SONAR's & Sony Acid) or Mac (Logic and Digital Performer). Headwaters I think they are all very similar, actually. The important is one that you feel most comfortable. You can download a free demo versions to see which one fits you best. There are some general tips on workstations digital audio player that I can give: Sony Acid tends to be a good choice for those who make loop based music (like hip hop and techno). Cubase is a good option for people with PCs or Macs. Pro Tools is a good choice for those using a Mac, but is probably not the best choice for those using Windows. It tends to work best on Macs and not really as full featured as Cubase.

As far as the microphones are worried that you will want to buy a condenser microphone for recording vocals and acoustic instruments. With mics you usually get what you pay for. Clarity comes mics better (and better mic preamps, but it's getting a little complicated for this article.) better mics cost more money. Dynamic microphones are good for recording drums and amplifiers. I'd say they are less essential if you have a set of drums. If you have some good guitar effects plug-ins (like Waves GTR 3) then you'll probably be able to get a good sound to connect your guitar (Or low) directly into your audio interface.

The reason is the best all in one solution for those who want a drum machine, a sampler, a synthesizer, and / or a program loop. It is high quality software that I can not recommend any higher. If you can afford it and you are interesting in any kind of "synthetic" elements in his music, then it is a must have.
