Can I claim a laptop tax as a sole trader?
I am currently working as a sole trader guitar teaching in some schools primary. I use my home computer to write invoices / full service / mailers / write sheet music, etc etc, however, is old and very reliable - and I'm looking to buy a laptop to do all this (the Asus Eee PC). Is it possible for me to buy one and claim that this tax? If so, how it works, I just need to send a receipt at tax time? I'm in the STS. Cheers!
Now ... I do not know enough about the computer - but apparently Asus EEE is very, very cheap? Is that right? If you are in the STS (STS is no longer - but the relief is the same) - if it is below $ 1000 you can write it right away - Which is correct. You need to include the figure under the Business and Professional Items Schedule your individual tax return. (Net value to go the item 14 of the declaration of the supplementary tax (for tax form 2007 to 2008 could be a little different) Details to go to P8 of the Business Professional and calendar items) You do not have to send the receipt for the ACT - just grab it. You only need to show they are always in touch with you later and ask for the check.
