can someone explain the theory behind these licks bb king?

Well, he is playing the scale minor pentatonic scale, perhaps the major pentatonic different points, but mostly minor (google scales, if you do not know ', are the principles basic to the blues, much more important than the major scale), but not the 'major' Note 8 to re-mi scale.
