guitar dampit
How should I use a guitar humidifier without causing "water damage" to my guitar?

The guy at the store told me that if the humidifier causing water damage are not responsible, but I keep my new one thousand U.S. dollars in moisture Martin good. Some of you have any tips on where to put it and tips on what not to do? This is similar to my specific humidifier: http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Dampit-Cello-Humidifer?sku=360181

Without much information, it is not easy to give a specific answer. your guitar to see "average" temps and humidity, as well as us. NOT extreme. Likes humidity between 35% -60% that it can handle the extremes, for short periods, but not as they should not be stored in them. If moisture is above 40-50%, you do not want to add more moisture. We do not know what "average" humidity in your area, so we have much to go with it. in AZ, you have to add a large amount of moisture in early summer, when you run the air conditioner, (unless you use an evaporative cooler) and winter, when you run the heat. Heating just suck all the moisture from the air. In the north, in winter, when it gets below zero, it is uncommon to see 5% of moisture in the house, even tho the weatherman can say it's 50% off. So you need to add a lot of water, or his guitar, probably crack. In Fl, Houston, La, etc., the humidity is so high, most of the year, you need not add much, if any! If the humidity is above 40% do not add more. That is when the shop was talking about when he said that "water damage." Too much moisture for a period of time, will weaken wood, the top can lift the neck, probably, move, lots of bad things can happen. Guitars are made of wood, and it moves like wood doors and windows. Too bad the store does not explain all this better, since so much depends on where you live, what time of year is, what kind of heat / air you uses, and how many times, many variables, we do not know ????. difficult to answer in a short post
