Looking for an effects processor guitar to computer?

I am looking for a free guitar effects to the computer that will make your sound of distorted electric guitar when you plug it through the microphone port. I am a musician and a need for recording purposes, it is a bad idea to distort your guitar with the amplifier, then to the computer, because that is bad news there. If anyone has any suggestions for Please, anything will do, but must be free. NO demos and trials. Freeware is more like it. Thanks
