How can I get more distortion on my guitar?
I use a guitar with distortion pickups and a friendly Boss overdrive / distortion pedal. But what are some techniques to get more distortion? PS 2 would use distortion pedals, while giving double distortion?
Yes, you're thinking in the right direction. A lot of guitarists (including myself) use 2 pedals to get their good distortion. I use an Ibanez Tube Screamer for my average and Crunchtone Line6 for my ups and downs. They mix well with something that requires a very light yet full of distortion tone. I also use Ibanez to a distortion nice light when I want distortion, but the definition also. They also provide a pleasant sound of metal, although if you do not put in running low on the Line6 sounds a bit thin. If you are thinking of buying a new pedal I suggest you look the other distortion pedal and determination is weakness. For example, my Ibanez Tube Screamer needed desperately low, so I compensate with my Line6. Learn what your distortion pedal is good and what is missing. Then play with some pedals in a music store for you to determine the pedal will cover your other foot weakness. However, be careful because if you have a pedal that has has great low, and you buy a pedal with a lot of low you are going have trouble getting their highs and nice set. Now, as to be more distortion of your amp, there's not much you can do. If you have active pickups (pickups that need batteries) inside your guitar, try replacing the battery (s). Turning the volume almost always helps any problem with the sound so try that. Do not hurt yourself though. I would go with the pedal 2.
