One of the major events in fingerstyle guitar playing for many years was the publication of a music book called "Beatles For Classical Guitar". This was the world's first attempt to blend the simplicity of the Beatles songs with the complexity of the technique of classical guitar.

One of the first things players strum the guitar that were not trained in classical guitar I noticed was that the fingerings of some of the songs were much more difficult to implement than had been used. But no pain, no gain. The scheme indicated the more complicated musical richness was found in more complicated arrangements of familiar songs.

Some guitar players thought that a book of classical guitar arrangements of Beatles' work was just a decoy. They hoped that a minimum amount of work was of such agreements only for the production of popular music to the market egghead. "In fact the songs are all significant arrangements that many guitarists classic find extremely rewarding to play.

People who loved the Beatles discovered that the songs were not recognizable in the process of organizing them to strum. The songs were arranged for guitar players who know how to read standard musical notation and they were not the type of agreement that can be played right through in order the first time I saw them. Parts asked to pay some attention and make some effort. Once you begin to feel the way as the songs were interpreted you can let your familiarity with the songs guide you as you play.

Some guitar players are going to feel cheated by the fact that there are no guides, but the pieces are a little too complicated to be translated into an effective guide. Guitarists who are accustomed play with scores will be gratified that the music is not hindered by the addition of a guideline.

This blues tribute to one of the Beatles's most important recordings has little to commend. The one truly outstanding cut is Joe Louis Walker's slow, soulful squeeze through "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," where his voice and lead guitar cry and moan, bringing the song's deep currents of pain to the surface. T-Bone Wolk and Anders Osborne stick to the original arrangements of "Don't Pass Me By" an...
