guitar hand position
Where should it be left hand thumb to play guitar?

I've been playing guitar for a year now. I almost always wrap my thumb around the neck, but when I need to get away from junk I put it behind the neck. Few days ago I read in many web-sites it is best to keep your thumb behind the neck, because you can get further frets much easier and etc. Then after a few days I practiced to play that position. But it is very uncomfortable to hold my thumb all the time behind the neck and my wrist started to hurt. I think I put too much preasure on my thumb, but I have no idea of how not put preasure on it and I do not understand how to keep the wrist. Fretting strings is much more difficult in this position. I really feel insecure about this issue. I'm self-guitarist tought, I practice a lot every day, and now I discovered that I probably did not realize right guitar: (

I was trained as a classical guitarist, and you is taught to keep the thumb behind the neck, but you also hold the guitar differently, your left foot is on a stool and the guitar is in his left leg, it keeps the top of the neck, which makes your forearm and wrist pretty straight. That said, when I get up and play with a strap or put the guitar in my right leg, I keep my thumb higher on the neck like you, but I move it back when I play more or chord sequences with shallower. Have you noticed that the finger has to change position with certain chords, and the trick, be aware of this, some people keep the thumb hooked over the neck constantly without knowing what they are doing it. You understand that, so just keep doing what you're doing and keep your thumb on that is comfortable for you, but do not be afraid to move him to play chords and scale passages. BTW, my roommate was a jazz guitarist who sometimes use the thumb to fret notes. He would play basslines with his string of low, and chords with his high ropes and that was the only way to do it. As above, however, he did so knowingly not because he did not know any better.
