Guitar Holder

What is the best material available for the craft string holder thing at the end of an electric bass
you know, the piece of thin plastic that keeps the strings in place immediately after the neck and ends before the start of the machine head ... BTW ... you know the name of that thing?
is called a nut, and the normal materials are wood, bone, ivory, plastic, you can even get a metal. the best would be to buy one, many shops guitar will sell them (they are worn fairlly easily, and often break as well.) and they are very cheap, but they can be spaced properly and the purchase price of a new make up the time you will spend trying to craft one. If you really want to make your own, go ahead and have fun. measure it out right and will not make any differrence.
