Guitar Intonation Adjustments

How to adjust my guitar?
I have an Epiphone SG G-400 and I was wondering about possible adjustments. It has a tune-o-matic bridge and I saw somewhere that you can change the tone with it. My intonation is not perfect, but very close. I better leave it or should I try to make it perfect? Too I try to get thicker strings or thin strings? What is the best tone? Also the action is adjustable. How does the tone change if I put it up or down? Will I get more static? And new and knobs on the value of money. Thank you!
My advice would be to find a music store near you, where the team will show you how to do all these things. One that will not talk down to you, and want to help you learn. Trying to tackle it on your own experience may cause some problems. Most shops can do something called "set-up, which will include the installation of new chains, setting the tone, setting the action (the distance of the strings to the neck. This normally costs somewhere in the neighborhood of $ 30-35 plus the cost of strings. You can talk to staff about the type of music you play, if you play with the default setting or some kind of alternate tuning, as the "Drop-D. thickest strings can give you more fat tone, but if you like to do a lot of string bending, you generally will not want to thicker strings. If you set the strings very close to the neck, you can get some bells. Also, if you're too close to the pickups, you may lose some tone. Most collectors can be adjusted up and down, so you can get the tune. I'm not sure what you mean by static. If you has static, you may need to clean up the volume and tone of "pots" with some clean electric. This is usually included in the installation too. G-400 usually has decent tuning machines, but if you want to upgrade to some Grovers, you could expect to pay another $ 60 +, including installation. Hope that helps. Thomas
