guitar junction box

When I was a youngster back in the 60 turbulent years, s, as most of my colleagues that I used to go out in the many cafes that were around town, and would like to feed the juke box that was always around the corner.

It used to be the spoken word to take everyone in the coffee shop will have their turn to feed the juke box, and by doing this you was announcing the world (or at least those in the coffee) what kind of music you liked to hear.

I remember I used to stay in the cafe until about 9 or 10 hours each (in these days of entertainment options were quite limited) and then I would go to my room and listen to Radio Luxembourg.

Will that some of you remember Radio Luxembourg? It was a well-known and much beloved, radio station.

A number of radio stations around the 1960s, and many of them were stationed on ships offshore. I do not remember any of the names of the stations or ships now, but if any reader can remember, so please let me know.

I do not remember now if Radio Luxembourg was a ship, or was based on land, in Luxembourg. Again, if anyone can enlighten me that would be appreciated.

Well, it was when I was in tune with these radio stations that I first got a "taste" for the guitar. Somehow it seemed to resonate with my soul and I loved listening to any record that had a guitar solo in it.

As much as I loved the guitar, never thought of playing it for me, that is, to a very curious case occurred.

Those who are familiar with the road system in the United Kingdom, will know that we have many roundabouts on our roads. These are designed to assist the flow of traffic without stopping it, as with traffic lights. They are literally, a big circle located at the intersection of two roads, and they often have a small area of grass in the middle only to improve appearance.

Well one day I was on my bike (I was too young for a car then) and about a mile from my house, I came across a roundabout, and there, sitting in the middle of this roundabout was a friend of mine who was happily strumming away on his guitar.

All cars passing by could not help but notice him, it was like an unusual sight there in the middle of a roundabout. It was a bit like being on stage in the middle of the road!

I sat with him there for an hour or more, and I just wish I had a guitar to get out and start playing.

But what started me on the path from which he never returned. Saved furiously until I had enough money to go out and buy my own guitar, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Over the years I've played in many bands, and have made music all over the world, but never forgotten that "roundabout experience."

Now I spend my time teaching others how to play guitar, and how to find your own roundabout to sit.
