Building a Guitar for Physics class?

Please help me! I am the most creative person, not in my class. Recently, we had a lab forces me to build an instrument. I want to build a simple guitar. The lab that instructs the different chain length make different sounds and I do not understand it because let's say I make my guitar floss. It would not make a sound. right? Just because my teacher knows the physical work on instruments does not mean we do. Most teachers look at it only from your point of view and not the student. When I tell her I do not understand, she is frustrated. Can you please give me a description how to build a simple guitar and to do it? Any help is appreciated!

The tone frequency () of a sequence depends on its size, mass density (linear) and tension. The strings may be the same length and the mass and tension are different. For formula, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vibrating_string Metal wire will have greater mass, but will also support the increased tension. Then wire (piano wire) is probably the best thing to use. EDIT: Nylon line Fishing is also a good choice. Pick heavier line for the low note strings.
