I had on several occasions brought me to the edge of the event and then studied the smooth perfect forms of each of the guitars that I had, gave a deep sigh grief, and once again slipped back to the task.

I was wondering, 'What's the problem? You built a yacht of 42 feet, learned to fly a plane, learned a foreign language knowledge, became a marine surveyor, but this has to win! "

It is confused and angry with me and I thought was beyond my abilities, but big things were happening. Some time ago I went to see one of my guitar heroes, Jeff Lang play. Little did I know, but this event changed my life. Shocked, amazed and completely perplexed I watched this guy have a guitar fig strange way, put it on your lap and take forward some of the best guitarists Slidin 'blues dog howling sounds that never slipped out of the Delta. My surprise continued as Mr. Lang went back and tuned for more whiny, prone Orientally Celtic and Asian megarythyms until I was numb. You can not get the sound of a guitar ... can not .... Guess what, you can, and he did! I wanted one of these Weissenbourns real bad!

I was hooked, I slunk home now completely depressed. My guitars hid in shame, we have ignored each other for days. The die was cast. Come hell or high water, I would get me a slip Weissenbourn 'lap Slidin' steel guitar top! Three to five thousand out of the question .... Dare I try to make one?

Here luck struck. Thanks to the great kindness and encouragement from my good friend and incredible luthier Kim Hancock Tamborine Mountain and its two boys, Sean and Dane, I decided to take the plunge. With the help of more than Kim and quality assurance and supply of wooden fence in a very nice long box and a great book on how to build guitars, I started dream.I impossible decided once and for all to build that damn guitar and what is more, write a book about it at the same time!
Having visited many sites and read some interesting books about the guitar I realized that there were some different methods to build a guitar from scratch. However, I decided that the most safe for me was the construction of a mold, a real replica of a guitar and work on the mold can be calculated.

The groundwork of the mold is to give you a 3D model of real live guitar you want to build, literally, around the mold. The other function of the mold is to have a very handy reference and immediately to work out front, rear and side dimensions of precious wood is about to cut. The groundwork is exactly what it says. It is a flat base built from MDF board, two pieces of ¾ "thick glued to each of resistance to form a mini" back "strong" to build your guitar.

The groundwork has available slots cut into it around the perimeter and they are used for small slide clamps and then paste in the back Mount sides, or even keeping the mold or the guitar yet.

Thus, the groundwork is your bank, the cast is the basic pattern that your guitar Weissenbourn will be built on and around. Once the basic body of the guitar was built, of course, the mold is then removed and continued to build ... .. you're with me so far? Well, let's slide (pun intended) as this should be done ...... In fact, the whole thing would be too complicated for me as I live on a yacht foot forty-two in a marina ... So what? Was to happen come hell or high water, literally.
