guitar microphone pickup
What is the difference between semi acoustic and electric guitar, acoustic guitar?

Okay so My Little Brother just got a new guitar, but I do not sure he was a semi-acoustic or acoustic-electric guitar with pickups (without microphones) So, my question is: How do I tell a guitar semi sound from an electro-acoustic (elecoustic for some) with pickups? Thanks a ton!

I do not know if the terms you are using, but here my settings: For a half acoustic, you may be referring to a semi-hollowbody guitar. These are usually electric guitar pickups under the strings and generally have the f-hole cut at the top (as shown on a violin). They are usually played by jazz guitarists, but require an amplifier as they do not produce much sound acoustic (unplugged). They are usually magnetic pickups and does not require a battery to power them. An electro-acoustic (I would call an electric acoustic but whatever) is an acoustic guitar (usually larger body with a soundhole under the strings). You can play it unplugged (acoustic). To make it electric normally install what is called a piezo pickup undersaddle. This is a thin strip of metal that goes under the saddle (the white part that holds the strings up off the bridge. In most the time they have built in a pre-amplifier and require a 9V battery, because the pickup is a pickup active. I actually have what is called a hybrid guitar called a Schecter C-1 E / A, which is a semi-hollowbody with 2 magnetic pickups like an electric guitar, but is also active piezo pickup in the bridge, which will gives an acoustic guitar sound very good too. You can mix the pickups to get lots of different tones. Hope is what you were really doing and that was helpful.
