guitar noise
Can you help me diagnose and correct unwanted noise from a valve Guitar Amp?

I had a Vox AC30 for 4 years and its been an amplifier giging drive. Recently, he began to be quiet (compared to the sound of the guitar) feedback noise intermittently. The sounds stop if the amplifier is gently expelled, but then start back up again in a few minutes. Please can you help me diagnose the problem and perhaps suggest a remedy. Many many thanks.

I do not remember if this is solidstate or tube, but it may be a loose tube or preparing for a coup, since the "shock" seems to put things in place. If this does not help, then a diagnosis on the bed of a repairman test is in order. Failing that, if you still want to or must use the amp, then you can try a noise gate, but if the problem is downstream, then the gate will be of no use.

It's the rare singer-songwriter whose emotional confessions rise above bathos to find true resonance with their listeners; rarer still the one who can connect their audience with the plight of everyday strangers. Suzanne Vega not only managed that feat on her unlikely, child-abuse themed breakthrough hit "Luka" in `88, but opened the door for a renaissance of intelligent, female folk-oriented musi...
