Guitar Nut Files

Changing Gauge Guitar?
Ok, so I've been using 0.9 gauge strings while I was playing guitar. And I'll switch to 11 gauge strings. I went to the music store and they do not have any 11 gauge Ernie Ball strings. So I asked them some, and should arrive on Friday. Anyways, when I told the guy I shop change was 11 gauge strings, he said that I would have to cut back on the nut of the guitar. I do not understand what I had to do. I actually cut the nut or just a file down the tracks a bit or what. I understand the strings are thicker and can not fit, so I think that in my file of each slot a little or something. any statement understandable help thank you!
haha wow, I'm having the same problem. I went home and immediately did some research. ok, now I have all 09 's in my gutiar and except for the tiny, which is a 11-and it fits well. I'm guessing that you will have to primarily re-cut "grooves of ED and A. Now it is not deep, but wide. Get a small file and file a little on each side of the slot. Not a batch file, just a little and keep each sequence sight so you can keep checking when it fits right. So just keep ling file on each side of a slot until the sequence is fits right. Remember, not in depth but width xD oh and if you screw up or buy a new nut or simply pick up the guitar to the store and have them do it for you. I do it even when my strings get lol.
