Okay, your mother is right. You definitely want to start with an acoustic guitar. The reason is that when you learn to play with an electric is much more difficult to learn the technique and fines, and even more difficult to tell when you are out of tune. Everything is buried in distortion and effects and it's just harder to hear what you're actually playing. Most of the best players to start with acoustic guitar. For me, there are also a lot of appeal do not need to drag out all kinds of things with you when you just want to go play his guitar. An acoustic signal can go to any place with you (they make bags backpack style of performance), and you do not need an amplifier. Furthermore, in response to your question about the strings: Nylon strings are found only on acoustic guitars. E, B, and sometimes the nylon strings are G, D, A, E low and nylon strings are packaged in what is called wound flat steel. Classical guitars are completely different, its construction is different, their sound is different, the way you feel when you playing them is different. On the one hand, they have much wider necks, with a flat surface, so it's a little more difficult to play chords on they. Acoustic steel string are much easier to play and is much more common, and therefore sound recognizable. They have thinner necks, with a slight curve for them, and they are available in a ton of shapes and sizes. If you just want to be able to play some music, acoustics are definitely way to go. If you want to go pro eventually, you will need a way. The only thing I'll say is that for some reason, a boy playing a guitar seems be a chick magnet. I do not know why, but it's true lol. I did not notice much the same reaction with electric guitars. Anyway, the point is, you can learn "right" and gain some attention at the same time. I do not know if you care about it or not, but it's always nice to have a girl or two checkin it out, right? I also checked out your video, it's hard to say what kind or size of the strings would be only one video, but they are steel strings sound, for sure. I looked everywhere, and I really can not tell you what kind of guitar is that it is playing, either. The camera angles are all wrong. I checked your site and friend of the musician, and could not find a guitar that seemed right. It's definitely steel strings though. I like Darco, (made by Martin) and GHS strings me. I usually buy the lights that are 12, but they are heavier than take more beating. Hope I helped!
