Okay, thank you again for my next installment of this series of articles on the audio effects. In recent weeks, we covered a handful commonly used effects like reverb, delay, flange, and compression. These effects have all range of application areas, and probably are used daily in studios latest recording in a wide range of different musical styles. We were discussing the basic features of each effect, letting you decide whether and how you would end up using it in their own production process.

Today weâ € ™ ll move towards a couple of other types of effects, are probably less used than others weâ € ™ ve said. Donâ € ™ t let that fact deter you from reading more, since these two effects, vocoder and auto-tune, both are very flexible and powerful tools for you to add to your arsenal of studio. Vocoder

The vocoder (his name is derived from an encoder œvoice € €) is a speech analyzer and speech synthesizer. It was originally created to be used as a speech encoder for the telecommunications industry in 1930. It was used to secure radio communication, where the voice has to be digitized, encrypted and then transmitted through a narrow channel voice band. The way it works is the vocoder that is the basic carrier wave which produces the human voice. This carrier wave is the fundamental frequency (lower frequency of a harmonic series). It is then measured as characteristics spectral change with time recording of someone speaking. This results in a series of numbers representing these modified frequencies at any time especially as the User speaks. To recreate speech, the vocoder simply reverses the process, creating the fundamental frequency in an oscillator, then passing it through a stage that the frequency of content filters based on the originally recorded series of numbers. For music applications, a source of musical sounds (such as a guitar) is used as the carrier, instead of extracting the fundamental frequency. The vocoder is famous for creating robotic sounding voices, and has been used in film to create, surprisingly, voices of the robot.

Auto-Tune

Auto-Tune is used to correct pitch in vocal and instrumental performances. It works by the use of digital signal processing algorithms (many of which are taken from the geophysical industry) to continuously detect the pitch of a

signal periodic input and changes to a desired tone. The harmonization is intended to increase the musical quality of a vocal track without revealing the singing as processed. This works well in a studio environment to correct the performance of singers and musicians, having recorded its examination. It has also been widely used with extreme values of parameters to create a distinct electronic sound vocal.
