Guitar Paint

How to paint a guitar that is black to another color?
I own an Epiphone Les Paul Special 2 black. I was wondering if I could paint. White would be ideal, but maybe some other colors to work harder. My friend paint used car painted dark red and bright. It seemed to work very well for him. So no know what paint to use to paint a guitar?
You can use any type of paint that dries to a glossy, hard, shell-like "finish. You will want to use a high gloss varnish over each time you decide to protect the paint. If you scratch a clear coat, you just see a risk of fainting. If you scratch the paint, you will never see what was underneath it. I recommend using a high-grade polyurethane. What ever you choose, there are some things you need to do: * You need to sand the entire painted surface to make sure your new paint has something to stick to * you need to use a spray and an air compressor * make several thin layers, with 2000 grain sanding between each coat paint * only in days not much wind. Wind tends to add extra powder into the air from earth and the mess up its completion. Words of warning: do not house paint to use, acrylic, or something similar. It looks terrible and is difficult to remove. Do not use a brush - it will leave paint lines on his guitar and has a good chance of leaving the hair paint brush you will find after the layer has dried. Do not try to speed up things, making thick coats - your final finish will be wavy, bubbly, and all-in-all horrible.
