Lou Miami (19561995) was a punk musician based in Boston. His group, The Kozmetix, was popular in the local scene and released two EPs. He combined a rough punk sound with a glam-influenced the choice of clothing.
As was typical of many punk bands of the time, regularly played Kozmetix the Rathskeller (The Rat), the channel, Jonathan Swift, Cantonese and Spit, and as NYC haunts, like the Peppermint Lounge and the fourth living in Providence, Rhode Island.
Lou Miami and Kosmetix also regularly played the Inn Square Men's Bar in Inman Square, Sommerville. Many law students at Harvard at the time proved to be one of the biggest fans of Lou, including Mike Ermer (later a partner at a major international office law) and Kevin Johnson, now (surprisingly) the dean of a law school top 30. In 1983, Lou Miami and Kevin Johnson finally met and discussed the music scene in San Francisco. In an encore, Miami blurted out "Happy Birthday Mike" in the middle of some kind of interpretation of "To Sir With Love". The crowd went wild.
On The Kozmetix, Miami was the lead singer, Jack Rootoo played guitar, HP (also known as Helen Privett) low, Dolores organ of Paradise Laural Blanchard and drums.
During the tour the band's 1979-1981 line Kozmetix was Lou Miami, on vocals, guitar Rootoo Jack, Bill Norcott on bass and drums Chisholm Melody. Bill and Melody came to Kozmetix his previous band Phobia. This line-up had a regular Monday night gig Cantonese for two years, as well as appearing in various clubs in the Boston area. The group was managed by Joan Martin.
In a clever bit of marketing, his first 45 with "fascist Lover" in side " To Sir With Love "in B, was not sold in a wrapper of paper, but in a white bag cosmetic plastic imitated the Lord & Taylor shopping bag. It contained the memorable line "A fascist lover made my mother and my mother made me!". Your LP Lou Miami & The Kozmetix was produced by Ann Prim and Karen Kirby both of Banda Boston November Group.
