Can I paint my Yamaha acoustic shield without damaging my guitar? How?
I bought a Yamaha acoustic with a monstrosity of a shield. I thinking or taking into a store to get the shell replaced, or paint it if that's possible. But I do not know anything about the existence or not of painting that will affect my guitar sound, if it can be done without removing the shell, or as you would paint it so it would not be just chip out. If anyone has any knowledge about it, I really appreciate it. Thank you.
Plastic Pickguards are usually pasted on top. I'm not sure why the manufacturers have done this by so long, why not drown out the sound. You may be able to remove it by prying gently with a flat blade. This will certainly damage the finish underneath. You may be able to chip away the excess glue and slap the smooth finish. Probably, you will need to cover the back with the shield. If you decide to paint your old shell, try make it out of the guitar. If you must paint it on the guitar, be very meticulous about everything with masking tape and paper. Krylon makes a great spray that adheres to plastic. It is available at Home Depot.
