Guitar Setup Costs

Poorly setup guitars really make playing guitar a great challenge. As if that is not an endless challenge itself. But why make it more difficult? As you probably know already know, the quicker you learn to play brings you more personal satisfaction and desire.

What is the 'setup guitar '? Basically, this means having the specifications set the standards of the factory or real personal specifications. Put simply, a set-up includes:
# 1. adjust the height of the strings on the neck
# 2. making sure your frets are level or the same height all the way up the neck
# 3. intonation
# 4. adjust and lubricate all the other components in general.

The goal here is to help you have a guitar you can play for maximum potential. Hopefully, without any confusion or unusual use of terms that do not really mean anything to you. As a matter of interest, I rarely treated a new guitar, especially Gibson Guitars, that are really badly set-up of the factory. Realistically speaking, it is a real mystery as to why more time is not spent setting up the guitars at the factory.

The Fender Squier line of guitars and seem to be the best set-up of the factory guitars, especially Series Artist Series and Custom Shop, and sometimes they leave much to be desired. I really do not want to knock down any type of guitar, not personal.

That being said leads me to the fact that each one unpacks guitar shop guitar must be created before it is sent or sold. Due to various circumstances, it is unrealistic to guitar retailers of any type of set-up every guitar. With low profit dealers are faced with the guitar, it is not economically viable.

Careless whether it is new or used, once your guitar is properly configured and tuned, you can not recognize it in terms of how well it play and so important as now sounds great. It does not matter what your feelings were in terms of playability and tone, your mind will be changed and burned.

I was lucky, my teacher of many moons is not only a brilliant teacher, he is a bona fide Guitar Hero. He has 51 years of playing, including a music education at Berklee School of Music. The point is that if you buy a Mexican Standard Stratocaster and set it up correctly, you have a guitar playing as well as an American Standard Start four to six hundred dollars less. The same thing with an Epiphone guitar. Why buy a badly set-up Gibson Les Paul for a few thousand dollars when you can buy an Epiphone guitar for less than half that price and have a better game and sound of the guitar?

Lets get down to brass tacks. A guitar set-up is well below one hundred dollars. Believe me, that is theft. A lot of precision work, along with some expensive tools go into a set-up. Not to mention the 'love' built by luthier or guitar maker. I spent a lot of my life rebuilding automotive transmissions, and nobody knows us, knows that they are accurate and sensitive. Guitars have the same delicate precision and time to do it right. Do not take my word for it, cough dollars and at least try.

Not mentioning the many updates would be a disservice to you. If you had designs on upgrading your pickups or add a TBX active tone control, locking tuners or whatever you can imagine, this is a great time to do it. As I said, you can change the whole vibe of your guitar, finding a reliable and luthier / builder.
