What guitar should I start, Gibson SG or Epiphone Les Paul?

Both are around the same price and im not sure what is best for rock / Alternative / some metal / some grunge. Gibson is a better even if its an sg?

If you have the money go to a SG. Personally I would go your local music store and try both and see what feels and sounds best for you. Never buy a guitar without trying first.
