Guitar Software Amplifier

What is a good low cost solution to expand the microphone and guitar inputs for a sound card in your computer?
I do not have an amplifier. I do not need to do, I just want to record with my computer software for music recording. However, the sound card I'm using (Sound Blaster) does not amplify the input signals. That's good, cheap way to amplify the sound input? If you are using an effects pedal guitar that sounds good to the price and can also amplify the sound dry (no effect)?
