How to use a Midi Pedal?

I have a Roland PK-5 Midi foot pedal: http://img3.musiciansfriend.com/dbase/pics/products/6/6/8/283668.jpg. I play guitar and am hoping to be able to play synth parts with it. What I can not understand is how can I make it work. The manual was not very informative. There are no doors on the back to connect an instrument cable, only "MIDI IN, MIDI Out and MIDI Through." What should I do to have it make sounds? How do for amplification with him? Thank you.

I just read the documentation in PDF format of this instrument, which says: "Roland PK-5 Dynamic MIDI Pedal bass note pedal board to play a variety of sounds from any external MIDI device, leaving your hands free to play the musical instrument of choice. "This should explain because there is no audio ins and outs, MIDI I'm guessing it could only be used to complete a handshake MIDI to a computer or to receive information a controller (like a guitar or a synthesizer controller wind), sequencer or computer. MIDI through can be used as a second MIDI out or routing MIDI signal through the pedal without touching the pedals that influence it. For the pedals to work, you need a sound source (be it a keyboard, module or instruments a virtual computer) and a MIDI cable. Run the cable MIDI in MIDI out of the pedal to the MIDI in of the sound source, where you can get the audio output to send to their headphone amplifier or mixer. Note that the support document indicates the ability to play a note (way down) or more (poly mode, mode of sound effects will not the eighth or MIDI control changes as a method of drum defaults likely to MIDI channel 10, which is generally reserved for drums, unless you want playing percussion you probably will not use this mode).

Classic Analog SoundWhat is a Lowpass Filter?A lowpass filter removes high frequencies from a tone. It makes the tone sound more mellow or muted. The lower the cutoff, the more muted the tone sounds. Imagine a window shade. As it is pulled down, it cuts out the higher light, then the light from the middle of the window, then finally all the light. A lowpass filter does the same sort of thing to th...
