Guitar Tuning
The first time I heard a guitarist playing in DADGAD tuning, I thought I was listening to an extremely talented guitarist. Not only was the music that made beautiful, but the overtones and sustain produced by his guitar had me fainting. I sat and listened to it for about an hour, then started talking.
For those who do know (like me, it does not) This means that you're setting your tune low E string down to a D, your B string down to an A, and its sequence high and up to a D. Instead of setting the standard EADGBE guitar is now configured to DADGAD.
When I asked Doug what he was doing it sounded so nice, he told me about this tuning. I remember saying to him: "No wonder they sound so good, you're cheating!" I was mentality that everything that made the guitar sound nicer without having to work to learn to play well in standard tuning can not be counted as the talent part of the player.
Fast forward 30 years and my favorite way to play my beautiful Martin HD28 is in this setting. The sustain and overtones are what still on me this adjustment. And in one Guitar great is even better. Over the past few years I have written two instrumental songs on my guitar in this tuning and am now beginning to working on a third. One is a complex part fingerpicked, the other is also a complex part, but is made of ropes, no strings only choice. Both are beautiful and are made so that this tuning.
It is possible that sound great doing something wrong. You can play chords beautiful, pressing only one fret. It's so nice to hear a guitar tuned this way you can spend hours experimenting with a variation of chords throughout the neck. A Once you get the feel for it, you can start doing what I have been doing for several years is starting to learn chords real. There numerous sites on the net and many books with much information about it. Once you start you will end up inventing their own variations.
For one of the most enjoyable experiences you will have to play guitar I strongly recommend that you give open tunings a try. If you like me and have little time to play every day, open tunings gives a sense of accomplishment and pleasure in a short time. Swooning happy!
