Songs by silence:
Donald Braswell € ™ s Impossible Dream
By Doreen Lee
â € œEd Ho sentito nel silenzio una voce in Me.A €
(And in the silence, I heard a voice inside of me.)
~ Paolo Limiti
When Donald Braswell took the stage on June 27, 2009 to act as soloist in a concerto with the Symphony Orchestra of the Hills in Kerrville, Texas, few knew what expect. Most of the audience composed of residents anticipating an evening of classical and crossover music.a The members of the orchestra, no doubt, used to accompany classical vocalists, was for the performance, as they would any other. However, when Braswell € ™ s soaring tenor jumped effortlessly through the passages leggiero â € œDiâ € ™ if you fedele of Verdia € € ™ s Un ballo in maschera, even those who knew its history found it difficult believe that there was a time during which he could not even pronounce a sound.I Before the night was over, he would go on to captivate audiences with their interpretations popular standards, including classic Bobby Darin and Sam Cooke. Even the orchestra members found themselves swaying to the music, enjoying the changing times rhythm and become as fascinated as the public itself.
Braswell had finally arrived Circle.Am The range of graduate Juilliard and prota © gà © Franco Corelli, the Prince of Tenors, has been known and praised for their leadership roles as tenor Cavaradossi in Tosca, Rinuccio Gianni Schicchi, and Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly, but at the height of his career, he saw his dreams destroyed in a few seconds of a disastrous hit-and-run automobile accident that destroyed his voice.is The trip back to its rightful place in the spotlight accompanied by a full orchestra took almost fourteen but then again, Donald Braswell reached his search, this time exhaling deep passion of a mature artist and tempered by the agony of loss.
Rise to stardom and the catastrophic fall
At the end of 1995, as his trembling vibrato resonated through the aria œAddà ⠀ ¬ o, Fiorito Asil € (â € œFarewell, Flowery Refuge €) of Puccinia € ™ s Madame Butterfly, Donald Braswell, although he I knew it, was also bidding œaddà € â € ¬ OA for his career as a premier operatic tenor.  You were five years since he graduated from Juilliard, and he was rapidly becoming an international star whose musical brilliance soon equal that of Pavarotti, Carreras and Domingo.the But success no matter how promising can be taken away in an instant.
This time of adversity came Braswell while cycling through Wales. He was hit by a car and, as a result, suffered substantial damage to the soft tissue of his professional throat. doctor said, because of the type of injury suffered, speaking that would be a challenge and singing was out of reach.
Braswell was devastated. Having grown up surrounded by music, he had never imagined in life silence. His parents, Don Sr. and Jane, were Broadway performers who met on the set of Lâ € ™ il Abner. â € œFor me classical music was very ingrained in me early on, and I wouldnâ ™ € t hear anything from the time I was a child, â € said Braswell. â € OESO the time I was seven or eight years, I was playing in a lot of things that [my parents] were doing € | so he just sort of felt natural that I would one day go into the field music at around € Capacity | I still remember the first smell of the theater, those lights and feeling like a child on stage and hear the sound of running an audience € | was a world I only understand â € "was a world where I felt at home.I €
Shortly after college, his wife Julie convinced him to apply the Juilliard School, a school with an acceptance rate of around 6%.  He did it only for its humor, the admission was thought impossible. Julie and family weren € ™ t the only ones to recognize his talent as Juilliard Braswell not only agreed but also offered several scholarships, including the prestigious Enrico Caruso Scholarship.
Thus began the journey that would take the boy-next-door the gentle hills of Texas to international stardom. His achievements both the Juilliard School and the stage he won a scholarship from the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation, which entitles you to study with renowned Franco Corelli Braswell Corelli. credits to make him the musician he is today: â € œWhen I first worked with Franco Corelli, I didnâ ™ € t know what expect. There was this mystery about how he taught voice that no one would talk to some one reason. I think it was because Corelli didnâ € ™ t really teach voice.is He showed where it came from singers, and how he felt the music and why he felt the music and how [the music type] has been created within of € him.a
From Corelli Braswell would learn not only to deliver the music, but also create it with a passion that passion. together with his versatile lyric dramatic tenor voice, made him ideal to lead the many classic works of Puccini, Verdi and Donizetti. He would do a world tour during several years before the dramatic moment that made her world fall apart.
The Quiet Period
In a television interview in December 2008, Braswell said it was only after the accident that he understood what it meant to suffer from depression, which consumed nearly two years, while lived in the silence that had been imposed him.a Nevertheless, he longed for a way to express his anguish in the most natural that he knew â € "through music.a He has written numerous songs, including â € œLook MEA € (which was recently performed in several concerts and dedicated it to the homeless). Â The song captivates the listener, precisely because of its simplicity and powerful poignant: a â € € œLook for me, â € the poetic voice raises the audience, â € œI am really somebody.â He recalls that in the sadness that he must bear, the music was thriving and fight fiercely to free himself.
While he was silent, however, there was no instrument that could release the music within him.a Then Braswell began to realize that despite the pain he was experiencing, he had another source of happiness â € "his family. Their first son was born at this time, and he named his Aria. In March 2009, Braswell said Diane Bliss Detroit PBS: â € œAn aria is a song of love, the place of expression and emotion in a opera. I called him that because when I didnâ ™ € t have a voice, Aria was going to be the voice of Me.A She was my music when I didnâ t ™ € € have The one.I, but inside, the music never died, Braswell continued to dream that one day their children would be able to hear him sing, to understand the wonder of his earlier career.
The trip through Americaâ € ™ s Got Talent
Years later, against all odds, a ray of light penetrated their dark world of music, when it slowly began to regain his singing skills and realized that his dream can not be lost.  He took about performance opportunities with regional groups and his church in order to strengthen its voice.is When the time was right, that Julie was, as before, put it in a way that would back to the world of music â € "where he deserved be. In 2007, when the third season of NBCA € ™ s Americaâ € ™ s Got Talent was looking for new competitors, Julie sent in an audition video of your husband € ™ s behalf. In September of that year, he was called to Dallas for a preliminary audition. a 90-second presentation, € his life would be changed | again.
When he announced that be singing Josh Groban € ™ s â € œYou Raise Me Upa €, laughter can be heard boos from the audience and ensued. the end of the song, the entire audience stood applauding â € "unanimously singing send it to the next ROUND. Hearing Braswell € ™ s hearing Groban told radio personality Billy Bush, â € œWhat a voice! â € | to hear [his] story € | heâ € ™ course s got Pipes range is Now € | Iâ € ™ m sure heâ € ™ s going to have a wonderful career! â €
Following this successful hearing, Braswell did before, but not for Long. To the indignation of the viewing public, so the judges do not move it to the Top 40, Braswell and â € "thrown out of his musical career, the second time in his life â €" was back to his previous job in the car business, thinking that singing was not just the destination.
Fate would have it otherwise. When a wild card spot open in the Top 40 (summer 2008), Braswell was one of eight selected for the chance to return. The American public was impressed with his ability to turn the public around during his first hearing, were also impressed with his powerful voice and the grace with which he handled himself on stage. For these and other reasons, Braswell extremely connected with the public television and managed to captivate millions of viewers with 90-performance and was voted the second round to a Top 40 He was to become one of the finalists, where, thirteen years after being told he could never speak normally again, he won the fourth place between 250,000 contestants. During the season, NBC showed a video of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, Braswell congratulating his rendition of â € œMusic of € night of The Phantom of the Opera and expressing the desire to work with him in the future.
His experience in Americaâ € ™ s Got Talent Braswell gave the opportunity to explore new genres of music.aa Showa € ™ s producer Simon Cowell, encouraged him to sing â € € œUnchained Melody in concert finalists € ™ at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.  Braswell, still holding their classical roots, was the first skeptical. However, he trusted Cowell € ™ s court, and today â € œUnchained Melody € is one of his signature pieces, earning a standing ovation at each concert, including their show sold out four months later in Las Vegas Hilton. Now this classically trained singer performs a variety of genres, including pop, rock, soul and even the impressions of some of the big names, like Elvis, Dean Martin and Robert Goulet. the same time, he remains faithful to the people who followed him and before Americaâ € ™ s Got Talent, his concert is never complete without a classic crossover of the likes of Mario Frangoulis or Andrea Bocelli.
Changing Music Symphony
Since his return to the music scene, Braswell was mostly performed both classical and popular pieces with a quartet band.i  However, when he worked with the director Music and arranger Anthony Bazzani Josà © Irizarry in preparation for the concert with the Symphony Orchestra of majestic hills, the result was a night of a musical unforeseen Among enchantment. nightâ € ™ s many surprises included a tribute to Ennio Morricone, an article entitled simply œEnnioâ € â €, Bazzani a collaboration between the composer and the Braswell lyricist. This was only a small portion of the nightâ € ™ s eclectic medley. The orchestra can be based on a small town, but it is definitely world-class violinist even started strumming their instruments like the guitar to enhance the flavor of the portion of the Pops exploit fully the concert. muchland € ™ s talent and versatility, the symphony and Braswell took the audience on a musical journey seamless 1832 (Donizetti € ™ s Lâ € ™ dâ € ™ elisir amore) to the present. They brought their best, and Braswell has proven to be precisely here, in front of a full orchestra, which rightfully belongs.
A little over a year has passed since Braswell was discovered by millions of America's € ™ s Got Talent. Curiously, when he was voted back into the Top 40, he chose to sing â € œThe Impossible € Dreama, the Magnum opus celebrated in Man of La Mancha, composed by Mitch Leigh and Joe Darion. An extended an arm to the crowd cheering, he bravely sang the last line the song, â € œreach promising the unattainable Star. € Â His rendition of this song (one of the greatest hits sung by the acclaimed Robert Goulet) Vera Goulet warned to offer praise and support.eu The play, which would eventually become the official song for the International Fan Club, seems perfectly describe your trip, twice in his life, Braswell had been thrown out a career in music, but he fought relentlessly.
Now, after successfully launching the 2009-2010 season for the Symphony of the Hills, Braswell continues to contribute his talent to the new trends in orchestra music.a He is planning a tour Pops will give you the opportunity to play with symphony orchestras around the continent. Recently, he joined with the genius of the composer and conductor Tim Janis in preparation for his second studio album. The Janis is not only written vocals for Braswell to accompany your existing parts, it is also creating new arrangements Braswell € ™ s own composition, â € œIn € Those Eyes, a song which he dedicated to his wife.  Janisa € ™ s soothing symphonic music includes elements of various genres â € "a feature that adds much Braswell €  ™ s own eclectic repertoire. On November 27, Braswell participate Janisa € ™ s upcoming PBS special, believe in dreams, Carnegie Hall. The biography is also in the works for publication in 2010. Through everything he experienced, Donald Braswell is really living what was once a œimpossible € â € dream.â
