guitar woods explained
esp issue of the guitar body?

im sure lookin 'for an esp, but they all have bodies made of different woods. can someone explain which the importance of the basswood / Agathis / mahogany? I know it has something to do with the sound, but that the difference in sound implanning. in getting one, and possibly change the PU's but will pay more for mahogany really change the sound of the PU that much. I know that the most expensive come with EMG's. but I do not want EMG's. they are very unversatile for the type of music I play. oh btw. i play metal / thrash and ballads Bluezy. mainly guitar, but a lot of curves and pull-offs. and im open for suggestions. no blues enough accent. more of a blues classic rock.

Tonewoods and are a mahogony wood with spaces in the grain that resonate. Basswood not resonate much. I prefer ash on any other wood. He has a warm sound, when mixed with pu right. Im not familliar with Agathis, call a specialist lumber store and ask them what kind wood is hard, soft, spongey, etc. different woods have different behaviors shades. The only thing I dislike is that ash is very heavy. PU an old Les Paul, who weighs a ton, but with great sound. If you are mainly playing rhythm I would not worry too much about it. You can make up lost the tone of the wood with more digital. Iknow thats kind of cheating, but you can not tell the difference any worn with the technology that is out there. Anyway Im rambling. I hope I have helped to understand what the wood is all about.
