Ani DiFranco
Biography
DiFranco was born in Buffalo, New York, a Jewish American mother, Elizabeth, and an Italian-American father, Dante, who were both and gathered at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She started playing Beatles covers at local bars and busking with her guitar teacher, Michael Meldrum, at the age of nine years.
In 1989, DiFranco started her own label, Righteous Records (renamed Righteous Babe Records in 1994). Before the renaming of Righteous Records to Righteous Babe Records, DiFranco worked with manager Dale Anderson, a writer for The Buffalo News, which started another label called Hot Wings Records after the two parted. Hot Wings launched the work area Buffalo female musical performers with styles similar to the Difranco. Early versions of their CDs produced before 1994 are marked with the label original Righteous Records. Her debut album self titled was released on the label the winter of 1990. Later, she moved to New York City, where she took classes in poetry at the New School and toured vigorously.
DiFranco identifies himself as bisexual, and has written songs about love and sex with both sexes. She addressed the controversy over his sexuality with the song "In or Out." In 1998, she married sound engineer Andrew Gilchrist in the Unitarian Universalist Service in Canada, supervised by UU minister and famous folk singer Utah Phillips [citation needed]. Numerous media sources reported that the fans felt betrayed by their union with a man. DiFranco And Gilchrist divorced five years later.
In 1998, DiFranco drummer Andy Stochansky, left the band to pursue a solo career as a singer-songwriter. Their live show during the rapport appeared in 1997 the album Living in Clip.
DiFranco father died in early summer 2004. In July 2005, DiFranco developed tendinitis and had a gap of tourism. DiFranco toured almost continuously in the fifteen years prior, only brief breaks to record studio albums. Her 2005 tour concluded with an appearance at the World Music and Genre Crossover festival FloydFest Floyd, Virginia. DiFranco returned to touring in late April 2006, including a presentation at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on April 28 and a performance at the famous Calgary Folk Music Festival on July 30, 2006.
DiFranco gave birth to a daughter, Petah Lucia DiFranco Napolitano, at his home in Buffalo January 20, 2007. The child's father is DiFranco's new husband, Mike Napolitano, co-producer of the 2006 version of DiFranco extension. Essentially, one-time resident Full New Orleans, DiFranco is strongly influenced by the city's post-Katrina situation.
She went on tour in 2008 with a band consisting of Todd Sickafoose on bass, Allison Miller on drums and Mike Dillon on percussion and vibraphone. DiFranco returned to the Calgary Folk Music Festival in July 2008.

Since 2003, DiFranco has been nominated four consecutive times for Best Recording Package at the Grammy Awards, one of which she won in 2004, to guess.
musical style and the people "label
DiFranco play the guitar is often characterized by a signature staccato style, fingerpicking fast and many alternate tunings. It offers many of his lines in a speaking style remarkable for its rhythmic variation. His lyrics, which often include alliteration, metaphors, wordplay and a more or less gentle irony, also received praise for their sophistication.
Although music has been classified DiFranco as much as folk rock and alternative rock genres since she arrived at her first albums. DiFranco has collaborated with a variety of artists like Prince musician, who recorded two songs with DiFranco in 1999: "Providence" in his album to the teeth, and "I Love U, but I do not trust U Anymore" on rave Prince UN2 the Joy Fantastic album: the musician and social activist Utah Phillips (in the past, did not go anywhere in 1996 and co-workers in 1999), funk and soul jazz musician Maceo Parker and rapper Corey Parker. She used a variety of instruments and styles: brass instrumentation was prevalent in 1998's Little Plastic Castle, an easy walk down on its cover in 1997, Hal David and Burt Bacharach Wishin 'and' Waiting, "cords in 1997 live album Living in Clip and 2004's Knuckle Down, electronic and synthesizers in 1999, is to the teeth and, in 2006, Reprieve.
DiFranco be noted that "popular music is not a guitar that is not where her heart is. I use the word "folk" in reference to punk music and rap. It is an attitude, is an awareness of their heritage, and is a community. It subcorporate music that gives voice to different communities and their struggle against authority. "
Lyrics, politics and religion
Although much of DiFranco material is autobiographical, it is also often highly political. Many of his songs are concerned with issues contemporary social, such as racism, sexism, sexual abuse, homophobia, reproductive rights, poverty and war. The combination of personal and political is partially responsible for the popularity of early DiFranco among politically active college students, particularly those of the left wing, some of which created a fan page on the Web for documents DiFranco career as early as 1994. DiFranco rapid rise in popularity in the mid-1990s was driven mainly by personal contact and by word of mouth rather than media.
DiFranco has expressed political views outside his music. During the 2000 U.S. presidential election, she actively supported and voted Green Party candidate Ralph Nader. She supported Dennis Kucinich in 2004 and 2008, the Democratic primary. Kucinich appeared with her in a series of concerts across the country during two seasons primaries. DiFranco began performing at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
Early in his career, DiFranco considered himself an atheist. On the topic of religion, DiFranco said:
"Well, I'm not a religious person myself. I'm an atheist. I think religion serves many different purposes in people's lives, and I can recognize the value of that, you know, the value of the ceremony, the value of community, or even have a forum to gather and talk about ideas, about morals which is a concept cool. But then, of course, institutional religions are so problematic. "
Since becoming a mother and releasing his album Red Letter years in 2009, DiFranco said in concert on "find religion". In concerts, she said that her song "The Atom" is an "alternative Christian. "In" The Atom "she sings Holy is the atom m / The truly intelligent design / For all / evolution is graciously aligned. In Reno, in 2008, before singing "The Atom," she said, "I've kind of got religion recently, I took a religion sweet, I'm familiar with the type of spray and a can outside of patriarchy, and this is what I came up with. "
independence Label
Ownership of Righteous Babe Records allows DiFranco a great deal of artistic freedom. For example, in her 2004 album Educated Guess, DiFranco played all the instruments, provided that all voices, and recorded the album alone in his house in an eight-track analog reel to reel. She was also involved in much of the art and packaging design. The only other person involved in recording music production was Greg Calbo, which dominates it.
References to its independence from major labels appear occasionally in DiFranco songs including "The Million You Never Made" (Not A Pretty Girl), which discusses the act of refusing a lucrative contract, "The Next Big Thing" (Not So Soft), which describes an imaginary encounter with a label head hunter that evaluates the singer based on his appearance, and "Napoleon" (Dilate), which sympathizes sarcastically with an unnamed friend who did sign with a label.
DiFranco occasionally joined with Prince in discussing publicly the problems associated with large labels. Righteous Babe Records employs a number of people in his hometown of Buffalo. In a 1997 open letter to Ms. magazine she expressed displeasure that what she considers a way to ensure their own artistic freedom was seen by others only in terms of their financial success.

hen I hear my new album, I hear very relaxed me, which I think has been missing in many of my recorded canon. Now I feel that in a really good place. My partner Mike Napolitano co-produced this record my guitar and voice never sounded better, and that because of him. That is, I have this great band and crew technique. And my baby, she teaches me to just be in my skin, to do less and be more.32]
