Opera dates to the 16th century, but has not at all shown signs of decline, even now in the 21st century. They include the luminaries of the genre's classic music, respected all the names in the list of opera singers of the past and present.

Maria Callas (born 1923-died 1977)

Nicknamed "La Divina" for their outstanding musical talent and thespice, Maria Callas was the opera singer's most acclaimed of his time and one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. Born New York, this higly Greek soprano is praised career was somewhat undermined by her tragic life, most notably his controversial romance with the millionaire tycoon Aristotle Onassis. Perhaps no other name is more associated with modern opera than the legendary Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti. World famous as one third of the known "Three Tenors" (with Plácido Domingo and José Carreras), he was one of the most famous and successful opera singers of all time, bringing the opera the mainstream consciousness. Pavarotti also had crossed the generational bridge between classical and contemporary music through a series of benefits shows performed alongside several pop music artists such as Bono, Elton John, Sting and the Spice Girls.

Andrea Bocelli (born 1958)

Blind at the age of 12, young Andrea Bocelli fought adversity with music and since then has become a prodigy in the field of opera. He has to overcome the great Pavarotti with the sale of a record 60 million albums worldwide, cementing its place as the best-selling tenor of the world to date.

Charlotte Church (born 1986)

Taking opera for the MTV generation, young Welsh soprano Charlotte Church has gained popularity in the nineties. With only a very young age of 12 years, she had impressed world with his extraordinary vocal talent. At present, however, she must embark on a successful career in pop music, as well as stints as an actress and talk show host. But longtime fans, no doubt, eagerly awaiting their return to their roots of opera.

Josh Groban (born 1981)

The U.S. singer-Polish-Russian descent and norwegian, Josh Groban has a voice that defies classification. Some referred to him as a tenor, while others have declared it a baritone. Anyway, this contemporary opera heartthrob has a unique range and versatile voice that lends itself well to the mainstream and music fever. He had the privilege of playing with singers of the current generation of opera more remarkable, as Andrea Bocelli and Charlotte Church.

As evidenced by this list of opera singers, the revered masters of the field will be forever remembered, while the next generation of classical singers is guaranteed. As the torch is passed, this great musical art form flourished in and continue to persist over the centuries.
