Guitars - Choosing between electric or acoustic

As a guitar teacher, I often wonder what kind of guitar, you should start, electric or acoustic? Here is an overview of the advantages and disadvantages of each and how your decision is to be formed.

Neither type of guitar is "better" than the other. They are merely different versions of the same instrument. Both have six strings and are tuned the same way. Thus, on the surface, the two types of guitar are played the same way.

Here are some key ideas to think about your decision ...

1. What kind of music do you play? If you're super interested in death metal, punk, or similar, then you want to go with electric. If you're a fan of classical, delta blues, country, etc., then you will probably need to start with acoustic guitar.

2. If you do not like your problem? No doubt, the acoustic guitar is an instrument a little more difficult because of several factors that I will speak below. Are you the type who prefer receive hard parts of the road and take it easy later, the sound begins. If you prefer to take it easy at the beginning and work your way more difficult things, first electric.

Acoustic Guitar
Advantages:
- Resistance to the best hand Builds
- Encourage your best because you are not helped by technology
Disadvantages:
- Thicker strings can be harder on your hands and fingers until you build up strength and calluses
- Although rather quiet, he can not be played silently (a concern for people in apartments)

Electric Guitar
Advantages:
- The light chains are easier on the hands and fingers in a first time
- Can be played silently if your amplifier has a headphone jack
- Not as a force by hand if necessary
Disadvantages:
- Moving to acoustics later may be more difficult than you need to increase hand strength
- The use of distortion and effects can make for sloppy technique
- Need to know more technical muting to work with the amplified sound

For my part, I started on acoustic guitar (a terrible, difficult to play one at that) and later moved to electric. I always thought that served me very well. The transition from acoustic to electric was pretty easy. In the other direction, the electric acoustics can be a bit more difficult simply because of the labor issues resistance and be comfortable with the larger body.

For my students, I also suggest starting with acoustic. Even if you start with electric, make sure to practice without distortion and effects. They can hide a lot of sloppy play and you miss things that you should be fixing. But, of course, when it's time to music rock, go!

Then the decision whether to start with an acoustic guitar or electric depends on your goals as a player and type student, you are. My suggestion is to start with acoustic guitar, but your own objectives should be the deciding factor.
