How to buy a guitar for $ 200

So you've decided to take the plunge and buy a new, beginner electric guitar. Well, you're in luck because there are a ton of decent electric under $ 200. The only problem is deciding which one to buy! But if you go in armed with a little knowledge and patience, you will find the appropriate instrument.

These days, you can get an electric guitar cheaper than ever. Most sub-$ 200 guitars are made in China Korea and Indonesia. Guitars made in the USA, Japan and Mexico are generally more expensive, and generally of higher quality. This does not mean that the cheaper guitars all instruments are of poor quality. It's amazing how much guitar you can get these days for under $ 200.

Buy a guitar, is a two-step process: 1. Decide which guitar you want. 2. Making sure the guitar is a "good".

Step a: This is the fun part. Go to local music store and look around. Even if you can not play, or only know a few chords, ask the clerk you can sit and strum each guitar. Just park on the cheap electric corner and go to town. There are some things I think about when deciding which guitar to buy. Firstly, how you feel when you hold it? I personally love how the strat-style body feels. Body type Les Paul, on the other hand, is a little heavy and cumbersome to me, although the SG body is wonderful. When you find one that feels good to hold, then test the action. How difficult is it to press the strings down when you play? Maybe the strings are too high off the fretboard, or could be too low. Again, even if you are a beginner, you may be surprised to find a guitar that feels just right.

Step Two: Once you find the guitar that feels good, now you need to get a little Technical and decide if the guitar is a "keeper." Since we are buying a guitar cheaper, mass produced, it is logical that some of these guitars coming off the line will be dogs, and some will be gems, and most will fall somewhere in between. On the "dog" I mean a guitar with an obvious flaw as a curved neck, loose parts, etc. You can hold the end of the neck in his hands and eyes down to the edge of the guitar's neck and compare it to the chain and high (Which is a perfect line) to see if there is any curve of the neck.

If you know someone who plays guitar, invite them to look at the guitar with you. Then throw it to make sure that the sounds and everything works fine. Plug it into an amplifier and testing of each collector. If a two pickup model, then switch to gathering at the neck and play, then center, then back. You should not hear any hum or buzz. If you hear any crash ask the clerk or try a different guitar. So, play some chords and listen for strings buzzing against the frets. If you hear a little fret buzz on ask the clerk him. They can "mount" the guitar for you and adjust the fret buzz, and set the action (string height), where it is most comfortable for you.

Step two may be a bit daunting for a beginner guitar player - sort of like someone who can not drive a car trying to choose. Finding the right color is easy, the test unit that is a little tricky.

Again, cheap guitars are not bad at all. You just have to get right. A friend of mine bought a cheapy acoustic that was one of the richest sounding guitars I've ever played. He went to every store in town guitar and played all the guitars in their range price. Most people hit a pitch, but completely lost in two steps.

What about buying from the internet? Well, with an established company like Fender or Gibson, I say go for it. His quality is well known. But with cheapy, mass produced guitars, buying a guitar store locations is crucial because you can check it out before you buy. You do not want to be with a guitar that will not stay in tune or sounds of low quality or both. You can avoid this headache really buy holding the guitar and play it before buying. If you buy a guitar online cheap you are rolling the dice.

One more thing: in the first trip to the guitar store do not bring any money. You want to make several trips to different stores and play as many guitars as you can. Again, even if you does not play, but a rope, then sit and play that chord in every cheap electric on site. Eventually you'll have a good idea of what you like and do not like. Then there will be less likely than a month after being disappointed with your purchase. It's OK to fall in love, just play the field a bit before committing.

If the guitar passes the test in two phases, and you did your due diligence and checked some other stores, so you're ready to buy.
