Guitar Tips - Changing it up to reach new levels
Are you looking to get your guitar to the next level? If so, there a variety of things you can do to improve your game, no matter what level of musician he is today. Learning to play guitar is a very gradual process, and how many other people these things have a tendency to hit plateaus where they settle on a particular level for a long time.
These plateaus can be frustrating. The story goes something like this: You find a source of inspiration and learning or you take everything you can. You learn new things, change your habits and behaviors, practice, practice, practice. You get results and feel fantastic, but of frustration long games where you get into a rut with your new behavior and seems to stabilize a bit --- incremental improvements dramatically slow or stop altogether. While you still maintain a new steady-state level of play, leaving to the next level is often difficult, without changing things up a bit.
Here are some ideas to change it up and triggering a new passion for their art:
Take a lesson
While this may seem a little obvious, it's really a board that many players can not take, especially when they passed a certain level of play. Lessons with a supply of qualified teachers a flow of benefits un-final. If you are already actively taking lessons you may then consider taking lessons from a new teacher for a period of time. Like many things in life, sometimes a fresh perspective is all you need to inspire you to travel in new ways in his musical journey.
Music Theory
While many guitarists are formally trained, there are also many talented guitarists who are not. One of the key elements that novice guitarists lose is a solid understanding of music theory. Put simply, the theory music is the analysis and understanding of how all the elements of music really fit. There are many sources for learning about music theory, including college classes, instructors guitar / music theory that specialize in books, videos, and a variety of resources available on the web. The point here is that the often taking his guitar to the next level is more intellectual than practical on guitar.
Play with other (new) musicians
This is really one of my personal favorites. Maybe you're playing with a band today, or play with some friends, occasionally, you might play alone in his room or with your favorite ---- CDs almost does not matter - just change it. Find new friends to play with him. Hit the guitar store, or online and search by ads or participate in a jam band. Go to an open jam or open mic night at a local club. And remember, for those already in a band, that's not being disloyal to his bandmates, is about expanding their own horizons so you can be much better when you play with them.
YouTube
I really the best for last, because if there is a solution that incorporates all the others in some way is YouTube and other video sites online similar. There is an incredible set of depth and variety of resources to help you improve your game on YouTube. Like anything else on the web, you need to go through things bad to get to the good, but I assure you that the good outweighs the bad tenfold. Many instructors very well respected and talented guitarists post free lessons and how-to videos for players of all levels. Some great examples include:
- How to play particular songs --- just search for "xxxx how to play guitar" and you'll be blown away by the content
- How to play scales every scale imaginable ----
- Chords ---- each chord change imaginable
- Special types of music: blues, for example, metal, folk, etc.
- Backing Tracks --- Yes, you can jam with a set of backing tracks in all musical styles
- Tips and Tricks: playing, for example, pull-offs, etc.
I speak to you from personal experience. I've been playing guitar for more years than I care to admit, but the content on YouTube just became my own guitar playing to new levels simply because the wide exposure for the musicians and different types of music.
Learning guitar can be a richly rewarding experience. To same time it can be difficult and frustrating, especially when you hit a plateau in their abilities, but if you want to keep it exciting and continue to improve, move. Introduce new influences and teachers in your game and you'll find new levels of performance.
