How wood I am preparing to paint up a guitar, which has a satin finish, but not very bright! I need to sand the top can I or how do I prepare the upper surface of the guitar to paint ... I have a few tubes of oil paint ... think I'll paint later ... I'm looking ideas on what to paint ... a picture or drawing or striae arc .. any idea on this too?

Start with sandpaper 100-200, then sand again with 400-600 grains of smoothing. You do not have to take all the way down to the wood, but you might need for primer before all the paint on the old paint, because it probably will not stick or it will bubble later on the road. For best results, sand all the way to wood, cleaning, painting 3-4 coats, then add some clear coat 4-5 coats depending on how "deep" you want to look at the painting. Make sure you use a piece of fabric tacking between coats of paint to remove dirt and impurities. For the final coat, you shuld let them sit for about 6-12 hours between applications and spray lightly. If you pipe all over the last few steps, you will have to live with it or redo this "thing" full! Good luck with the painting. RE: Designs, drawings on paper FIRST! Be sure to practice painting on a real surface mock-up before try the real thing, especially if it's your first time. Practice makes perfect. Get some masking tape blue painter and use a Xacto knife to cut the lines and sharp edges to the drawings. If you add shading or layering drawings, make sure you use dark at first, then go lighter until you're on the last layer where it should be fairly reflective of white or clear. As mentioned above, let things stand between coats / desgins to dry and use a rag to get rid of tacking the wicked. If the paint goes do not fix it! Wipe as much as you can, and sand after drying off (You can use paint thinner too, but you ave to be careful and only use a cotton swab not to smudge up all around her. Hope this helps everyone!
