Back a few years ago when I started my new Fender Start, I was so excited about the fact that I actually had this brand new guitar to play I left looking for literally everything I could find to play. While most people go through a phase like this in his guitar playing, mine was different. The reason for this is because the information that I found. The way I came across this was actually by chance at my local music store. I had a conversation with one of the staff, an older guy, gray hair, heavy smoker, big mustache. Anyway, besides the fact that it seemed he had plenty of experience under his belt, something about it just told me that this guy was cool.

I was told a different way of thinking about music, guitar, and finally touching mine. Not only that, but it really made me think about what I wanted to do with my guitar. What one thing I'm looking for? The answer did not come for weeks, and I want to say weeks! It's frustrating the hell out of me, I had been told this information, but I had no idea what he really meant. As in recent weeks and I continued to slave away for hours to get sick than I was playing something finally clicked, like I finally saw the light that was how I understood everything right away, I was said!

I thought I had learned the theory, scales, modes, chords, keys and everything else a guitarist should know. Then I realized the truth ... I did not know your welcome! You see, when you start playing guitar or other instrument, you think your knowledge and skills are placed in a pyramid, and eventually you will reach the top and you would have mastered the guitar or any instrument that may be. The reality of it all is that this concept could not be more from the truth.

The pyramid of knowledge exists, but not the way you probably think he does now. The pyramid is actually upside down. You start at the bottom, the point a little. As you go up the pyramid you finally realize how little we know and that is when you realize that there is no real thing as "master the guitar" because it is completely impossible. There can be a gauge to compare blues to jazz, classical the rock. There are so many different voices of a guitar that there is no way you can compare an acoustic guitar for an electric guitar. One you realize this, you can begin to define exactly what you want to be able to do on guitar, if it means learning a certain part of the theory, finger tapping, sweeping or anything else.

After defining what you want to be able to do, you can begin to act on it. Get all the information you need to be able to learn what you want to learn. And of course, once you've learned everything that you set for yourself, a new set of goals with emerge, is a never ending battle of knowledge, which is what you need to realize. The real secret to play less but get better faster is to know you want to learn! Without it, you do not know what direction you want to go that people often end up either stay put or run in circles. Set out a time of day, something that perhaps in the early morning or after work. Even if only 15 minutes, is the time for you to do it every day without fail and begin to learn exactly what you want to learn. Stick to it and not give up, the results are worth it.

Then, in my quest to play stuff I found a secret that most never know, it's crazy to think that something as simple as knowing what you want and doing a little all day will make you player you always wanted to be, without having to slave away hangs himself in his room for hours on end. Remember the pyramid is upside down! Then, course you want, and go for it!
